Time is well spent making color charts. It allows us the opportunity to know what mixes we can get from our palette. In the chart below, I selected newer cool colors and mixed them with a few warm colors that I have on my palette. Now I see my options and am ready to paint!
I was going through my studio and came across this demo exercise on painting figures. This is a great way to simplify figures from a photograph. With tracing paper, trace the shapes with a fine tip black marker and shade the shadows.
Redraw the figures on watercolor paper and paint with 2 colors. I used ultramarine blue and raw sienna.
We had a beautiful day at The Gardens on Spring Creek for the "Painting the Fall Harvest" workshop.
Here are a few sketches from the morning. Volunteers were perfect models as they worked in the different gardens.
I used a "sketch and wash" pencil with a water brush. The color added is burnt sienna watercolor.
